Ilya Chirun / Илья Чирун, 1985


Russian Artist Ilya Chirun was born in the town of Yakhroma, near Moscow. Even as a child, he decided to become a professional artist and since then has been doing what he loves most. Chirun is member of the Union of Artists of Russia.
Ilya speaks of himself as a very happy person who did not have to work a single day in his life - he just does what he loves. And what you love cannot be called work.

Louis Anquetin | Cloisonnism painting style


French painter Louis Anquetin (1861-1932) was a contemporary of Vincent van Gogh and a celebrated painter in his own right, known for working in the Cloisonnism style.
Anquetin was born in Étrépagny, France and educated at the Lycée Pierre Corneille in Rouen. In 1882, he came to Paris and began studying art at Léon Bonnat's studio, where he met Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. The two artists later moved to the studio of Fernand Cormon, where they befriended Émile Bernard and Vincent van Gogh.

Michel-Eugène Chevreul | Color theory, 1839


Michel-Eugène Chevreul, (born Aug. 31, 1786, Angers, France - died April 9, 1889, Paris), French chemist who elucidated the chemical composition of animal fats and whose theories of colour influenced the techniques of French painting.

Background And Education

Chevreul belonged to a family of surgeons. After receiving a private education during the French Revolution, in 1799 Chevreul entered a new scientific school in Angers.
In 1803 he left for Paris, intending to become a chemist. Nicolas Vauquelin, professor of chemistry at the Museum of Natural History, accepted him as his assistant.
Vauquelin wanted to isolate substances from animal and plant materials, and under his direction between 1807-1811 Chevreul isolated several coloured substances from woods, three of which (brazilin, hematoxylin, and quercetin) became commercial dye ingredients.

Richard Savoie, 1959 | Cityscape painter


Richard Savoie is a Quebec painter born in Moncton New Brunswick. He comes from a family of artists, the works of his uncle Roméo Savoie is part of Canada’s National Gallery.
Savoie spent part of his childhood by the sea and is still inspired by the sounds of its many moods, from the gentle lapping of waves on the shore to the thundering roar of surf whipped by a wild wind.
He studies art with Gabrielle Messier and Yolaine Lefebvre and becomes a full time artist by the 1980s.

Bartolomeo Giuliano | Genre painter


Bartolomeo Giuliano (1825-1909) was an Italian painter.
Giuliano studied at the Albertina Academy in Turin and began presenting works on historical and literary subjects at the local Promotrice exhibitions in 1846.
He was appointed assistant professor of figure drawing in Turin alongside Enrico Gamba in 1855 and then held the same position with Raffaele Casnédi in Milan, where he moved in 1860.

Désiré François Laugée | Naturalist / Genre painter

Désiré François Laugée (1823-1896) was a French painter. His work included portraits and classical religious or historical scenes.
His large murals still decorate several churches in Paris. He also made naturalist landscapes and genre paintings of peasants, particularly in his later life.
With this work he may be seen as a precursor of the Barbizon school. He achieved great success during his lifetime, although his work has since been largely ignored.
