Egron Lundgren (1815-1875)


Egron Sellif Lundgren (18 December 1815, Stockholm - 16 December 1875 Stockholm) was a Swedish watercolor painter.
He studied at the Academy of Stockholm, and afterwards in Paris under Cogniet.
He sojourned in Italy, 1841-49, devoting himself to watercolors.
From there he went to Spain and then to England, where he was commissioned by Queen Victoria to paint ceremonial pictures.





He was sent to India during the war in 1858, the results of which expedition were a series of five hundred sketches, including numerous portraits.
He was elected an associate member of the Royal Watercolour Society, London in February 1864.
He later became a full member in 1867.

Among his works are San Vitale, Ravenna, and the Library, Siena, both in the National Museum, Stockholm; Feast of Corpus Domini in Rome (1841), Royal Palace, Stockholm; and a series of illustrations to Old Swedish Tales, 1875.

Studiò all'Accademia di Stoccolma e successivamente a Parigi sotto Cogniet. Soggiornò in Italia, dal 1841-1849, dedicandosi agli acquerelli. Da lì è andato in Spagna e poi in Inghilterra, dove è stato incaricato dalla regina Vittoria di dipingere quadri cerimoniali.
Fu inviato in India durante la guerra nel 1858, i cui risultati furono una serie di cinquecento schizzi, tra cui numerosi ritratti. Fu eletto membro associato della Royal Watercolour Society di Londra nel febbraio del 1864. In seguito divenne membro a pieno titolo nel 1867.

Charles Sprague Pearce (American, 1851-1914)


Charles Sprague Pearce was an American artist.
Pearce was born at Boston, Massachusetts. In 1873 he became a pupil of Léon Bonnat in Paris, and after 1885 he lived in Paris and at Auvers-sur-Oise.
He painted Egyptian and Algerian scenes, French peasants and portraits, and also decorative work, notably for the Thomas Jefferson Building at the Library of Congress at Washington.

Elie Anatole Pavil | Paris de la Belle Époque


Ukrainian-born French painter Elie Anatole Pavil [1873-1948] came to Paris in 1892. He established himself in Montmartre, on the Rue Caulaincourt.

He had arrived at the high point of La Belle Époque; Pavil dedicated himself to capturing its atmosphere on canvas. For most of the next fifty years he painted the cafes, the beautiful women, the jazz bands and artist ateliers of Paris.

His paintings show an intimate knowledge of the inhabitants of the streets and alley’s of Montmartre. Elegant couples dancing, beautiful models posing, working men finishing their day with a drink at the bar, all were captured in Pavil’s carefully balanced compositions, many of which show the distinct the influence of Degas and Renoir.

Laurits Andersen Ring | Symbolist / Genre painter

Laurits Andersen Ring (15 August 1854 - 10 September 1933) was one of the foremost Danish painters of the turn of the 20th century, who pioneered both symbolism and social realism in Denmark.
Considered one of the masterpieces of Danish culture, his painting Summer Day by Roskilde Fjord was included in the 2006 Danish Culture Canon.

Life

Ring was born as Laurits Andersen a village named Ring in southern Zealand. Ring's parents were wheelmaker and carpenter Anders Olsen (1816-83) and farmer's daughter Johanne Andersdatter (1814-95). In 1869, he became a painter's apprentice because his older brother was to take over the father's workshop.
