Giotto di Bondone, better known simply as Giotto, was an Italian painter and architect from Florence in the late Middle Ages. He is generally considered the first in a line of great artists who contributed to the Italian Renaissance. Giotto's contemporary Giovanni Villani wrote that Giotto was "the most sovereign master of painting in his time, who drew all his figures and their postures according to nature. And he was given a salary by the Comune of Florence in virtue of his talent and excellence".

Dmitri Danish, 1966 | Venice Evening

Дмитрий Даниш, Ukrainian painter, known for working in the Impressionist style, was born in Kharkiv.
He was a natural artist from the start.
His mother, an artist herself, was the first to discover Dmitri's talent and began to teach him to draw and paint.
At age 12 he was accepted into a Kharkiv Art School, and by age 15 he was enrolled at the Kharkiv State Art College.

Rogier Van Der Weyden | Northern Renaissance painter

Rogier van der Weyden, original name Rogier de la Pasture (1399/1400, Tournai [Belgium] - 1464, Brussels), Northern Renaissance painter who, with the possible exception of Jan van Eyck, was the most influential northern European artist of his time.
Though most of his work was religious, he produced secular paintings (now lost) and some sensitive portraits.
Rogier was the son of a master cutler, and his childhood must have been spent in the comfortable surroundings of the rising class of merchants and craftsmen.

Tim Thompson, 1951 ~ Seascapes painter

Born in Hull, England, Tim Thompson, British painter, spent his childhood from the age of five in the Channel Islands, where his interest in the sea and sailing first developed. He now lives in Saltash, Cornwall in the UK, with his wife Sharon and his daughters Holly and Gemma.
Tim began his painting career when he was 27 and established his reputation with nautical paintings of subjects from the ships of Drake's era, through to modern racing yachts. He is renowned for his meticulous attention to detail and his ability to create dramatic and atmospheric images.

Petrus Christus (1410 circa-1475 circa), è stato un pittore Fiammingo.
Appartenne alla cosiddetta "seconda generazione" del periodo dei Primitivi Fiamminghi, dopo la prima dei fondatori Jan van Eyck, Rogier van der Weyden e Robert Campin.
Le notizie sulla sua vita sono scarse: non si conosce neanche quale fosse il suo vero nome (quello di Petrus Christus è stato dedotto dalla sua firma, petr. XPI).
Il catalogo delle sue opere, che conta circa quaranta pezzi, è stato ricostruito in base agli otto dipinti pervenutici, datati tra 1446-1457, che recano la sua firma.

Kathrin Longhurst, 1971 | Figurative painter

Kathrin Longhurst, German-born Australian painter, known for working in the Figurative and Hyperrealist style.
Grew up in Communist East Germany where she started taking life drawing classes at age 14.
Her work is strongly influenced by Socialist Realism and communist propaganda art.
Kathrin spent a decade in Scandinavia visiting galleries in Denmark and Sweden as well as a year in Belgium where her work gained its Art Nouveau influences.

Anna Lea Merritt | American Pre-Raphaelite painter

Anna Lea Merritt [1844-1930] American painter, was born in Philadelphia, the daughter of Joseph Lea a manufacturer. She studied art in Italy, Germany and Paris, ultimately settling England in the late 1860s. She married Henry Merrit, artist, and critic, who was twenty two years her senior. Tragically he died three months after the wedding. Anna Merritt edited a selection of her husband’s writings for publication. She built up a thriving practice as a portrait painter, in which artistic sphere she was highly talented, her picture of two little sisters, Jacqueline and Isura Loraine, for example is highly accomplished. In later years she often wintered in Egypt. She lived in Hampshire.
