Josephine Wall, 1947 | Fantasy painter

Josephine Wall 1947 | British Mystical Fantasy painter

From childhood Josephine has had a passion for light and colour, fantasy and visual storytelling. The life of a painter was clearly her destiny! Enchanting and detailed images flow freely from her imagination in an endless cascade of ideas.
Her first employment after leaving Art College was at Poole Pottery, where she painted the dynamic and boldly coloured designs of the now famous Delphis ware - very collectable and realising high prices at specialist auctions. In addition to her main love of painting, she directs her creative energies into pottery figures, sculpture and reproduction stained glass panels.
She has even customised items of clothing.

Juan Gris | Cubist painter

Juan Gris, original name José Victoriano González (1887-1927), Spanish painter whose lucidly composed still lifes are major works of the style called Synthetic Cubism.
Gris studied engineering at the Madrid School of Arts and Manufactures from 1902-1904, but he soon began making drawings for newspapers in the sensuously curvilinear Art Nouveau style.
He moved to Paris in 1906 and settled at the Bateau-Lavoir, an artists’ dwelling where his compatriot Pablo Picasso lived. Gris was thus in touch with the evolution of Cubism, a style initiated by Picasso and Georges Braque around 1907.

Ancient Greek sculpture

The origins of greek sculpture have been ascribed the wooden cult statues that were described by Pausanias as xoana.
No such statue survives, and the descriptions of them are vague despite the fact that some were objects of veneration for hundreds of years.
The first piece of Greek statuary to be reassembled since is probably the Lefkandi Centaur (Eretria Mus.) found on Euboia.

Max Gasparini, 1970 | Portrait painter
