Benito Quinquela Martín (1890-1977)

Argentine painter Benito Quinquela Martín is considered the port painter-par-excellence and one of the most popular Argentine painters. His paintings of port scenes show the activity, vigor and roughness of the daily life in the port of La Boca.

Early years

His birthday could not be determined precisely as he was abandoned on March 20, 1890 at an orphanage with a note that stated "This kid has been baptized, and his name is Benito Juan Martín". From his physical appearance, the nuns who found him deduced that he should be around twenty days old; thus March 1 is regarded as his birthday.

Ricardo Celma, 1975 | Art Nouveau style painter

Ricardo Celma was born in Buenos Aires. His artistic vocation showed up at the early age of 5 when he started attending to an art workshop and he continued to do so for 20 years.
At the end of high school he entered the National School of Fine Arts Prilidiano Pueyrredón, where he obtained the title of national professor of drawing and painting, with excellent grades.
And a few years later, he received a degree, Bachelor of Visual Arts at the National University of Art (UNA).
His works are part of permanent museum´s collections and also private collections around the world.

Leonor Fini (1907-1996) | Surrealist painter


Léonor Fini, original name Eleonora Fini (born August 30, 1907, Buenos Aires, Argentina-died January 18, 1996, Paris, France), Argentine-born Surrealist artist known for her Gothic paintings that explore female identity.
The use of symbolic, mythological imagery, in particular that of a sphinx (a creature with a lion’s body and a human head), became the trademark of her work.
Fini’s parents separated when she was a baby, and she was raised by her mother in Trieste, Italy. As a child, she was fascinated by death and decay and visited the Trieste morgue to make anatomy sketches of the cadavers.

Argentine painter Diego Dayer was born in Rafaela, Provincia de Santa Fé.
He began his art in Marcela Grosso´s workshop, plastic artist in his natal City. Afterwards he began to study painting in the “Escuela de Arte de la Universidad Nacional de Córdoba”.
