Erzsébet Furmen | Pebble Artist

The Hungarian artist Erzsébet Furmen (Erzsébet Szilajka) brings stones to life in her charming Pebble Art.

She has loved stones since her childhood. She enthusiastically collected pebbles and made of them pieces of her life out like a mosaic.

Just as in her childhood, today Erzsébet can also spend a few hours on a gravel road or on a beach, choosing the most interesting, textured and ribbed stones for her work.

Now the artist tells stories about couples, family and love for animals.

Erzsébet usually draws backgrounds for her pictures, they are often streets of cities, lights, benches.

This background should create an atmosphere, set the mood for a story, but the main theme is focused on stone figures.

Artist statement

- "The colour and shape of the pebbles, the richness of their patterns and the beauty of nature inspire my pebble pictures and works of art. It is truly amazing to “cooperate” with nature as a pebble artist. I use all the pebbles in their original form shaped only by nature itself - this is the essence of pebble art.

I make my pebble pictures with all my heart, cheerfully, which I do hope is noticeable.

It really makes me delighted to get feedbacks from my clients saying my pebble pictures are "heart-warming", "soothing", "send a message of peace2 or "thought-provoking".

This is that "extra" I can provide with my pebble pictures. I do hope I will experience even more delight and pass it on - when from inspiration to realization- the pebble picture finds its owner or someone finds the picture which really relates to them. I am glad if I can show beyond myself with my pictures. According to my faith, all creations point at God, the Creator. He is the real "Pebble Artist".

The pebbles are static and dynamic at the same time. It all depends on how much the artist can picture her feelings, movements created in her mind into the pebble picture, the completed work of art. Many times the feedbacks state that my pictures "are almost moving" and their atmosphere evokes deep emotions in their viewer.

This is the way how pebble art works.

In the process of making my pebble pictures many unplanned details are being shaped, I let my fantasy work and also let my feelings and thoughts impregnate the message.

This way the completed picture becomes dynamic in spite of the fact that the pebbles themselves play a static role in the work of art.

The outcome is like a photo taken in the perfect time. It includes the movement, the feeling, the story which can be continued. This way there are not only pebbles in the pebble pictures but invisible fingerprints and "soul-prints" as well.

The process of creation teaches me to let things go, as it is always difficult to bring myself to part with my pebble pictures. However, the feeling of letting things go makes me feel free.

Real delight wants to be shared with others, while insisting on something makes us selfish and rigid. It is a wonderful feeling to see when a pebble picture finds its owner even though it means I have to say goodbye to a part of my pebble collection.

I often rely on my customer’s ideas but I do use my artistic freedom to produce art.

If I only listen to myself, I love simplicity and clear lines. I do think that the most essential elements in life stand or fall on the simplest things.

For me, art is adding that little something extra to simple subject matters such as love between two people or family members. It does not only reconstruct a genre scene but also adds something to it for which it is worth stopping and thinking. Pebble art makes it really possible.

I do believe that the completed work of art, the pebble picture, is not only my creation but much more a mutual creation of the artist and the receiver. These two things together is pebble art.

It only becomes a real work of art if it really means something to the receiver as they have the opportunity to add their own feelings and thoughts as well. Pebbles have no face, so anyone can enter and play a part in a pebble picture..."

L'artista Ungherese Erzsébet Furmen (Erzsébet Szilajka) dà vita alle pietre con la sua affascinante arte di ciottoli.

Lei ama le pietre fin dall'infanzia, collezionava con entusiasmo ciottoli e ne faceva pezzi della sua vita come un mosaico.

Proprio come nella sua infanzia, oggi Erzsébet può anche trascorrere qualche ora su una strada sterrata o su una spiaggia, scegliendo le pietre più interessanti, strutturate e scanalate per il suo lavoro.

Ora l'artista racconta storie di innamorati, di famiglie e di amore per gli animali.

Erzsébet di solito disegna gli sfondi per i suoi quadri, spesso sono strade di città, luci, panchine. Questo sfondo dovrebbe creare un'atmosfera, creare l'umore per una storia, ma il tema principale è incentrato sulle figure di pietra.

"Il colore e la forma dei ciottoli, la ricchezza dei loro motivi e la bellezza della natura ispirano i miei quadri di ciottoli e le mie opere d'arte.

È davvero incredibile "collaborare" con la natura come artista di ciottoli.

Utilizzo tutti i ciottoli nella loro forma originale, modellati solo dalla natura stessa: questa è l'essenza dell'arte dei ciottoli.

Realizzo i miei quadri di ciottoli con tutto il cuore, allegramente, il che spero si noti.

Mi rende davvero felice ricevere feedback dai miei clienti che dicono che i miei quadri di ciottoli sono "scaldacuore", "rilassanti", "trasmettono un messaggio di pace" o "stimolano la riflessione". Questo è quel "di più" che posso offrire con i miei quadri di ciottoli. Spero di provare ancora più gioia e di trasmetterla, quando dall'ispirazione alla realizzazione, il quadro di ciottoli trova il suo proprietario o qualcuno trova il quadro che si riferisce veramente a loro.

Secondo la mia fede, tutte le creazioni puntano a Dio, il Creatore. Lui è il vero "Artista dei ciottoli".

I ciottoli sono statici e dinamici allo stesso tempo. Tutto dipende da quanto l'artista riesce a raffigurare i suoi sentimenti, i movimenti creati nella sua mente nell'opera completata.

Questo è il modo in cui funziona l'arte dei ciottoli. Nel processo di creazione dei miei quadri di ciottoli vengono plasmati molti dettagli non pianificati, lascio che la mia fantasia lavori e lascio che anche i miei sentimenti e pensieri impregnino il messaggio.

In questo modo il quadro completato diventa dinamico, nonostante il fatto che i ciottoli stessi svolgano un ruolo statico nell'opera d'arte.

Il risultato è come una foto scattata nel momento perfetto. Include il movimento, il sentimento, la storia che può essere continuata. In questo modo non ci sono solo ciottoli nei quadro, ma anche impronte invisibili dell'anima".

Il processo di creazione mi insegna a lasciar andare le cose, poiché è sempre difficile convincermi a separarmi dai miei quadri di ciottoli. Tuttavia, la sensazione di lasciar andare le cose mi fa sentire libera.

La vera gioia vuole essere condivisa con gli altri, mentre insistere su qualcosa ci rende egoisti e rigidi. È una sensazione meravigliosa vedere quando un quadro di ciottoli trova il suo proprietario, anche se significa che devo dire addio a una parte della mia collezione di ciottoli.

Spesso mi affido alle idee dei miei clienti, ma uso la mia libertà artistica per produrre arte. Se ascolto solo me stessa, amo la semplicità e le linee chiare. Penso che gli elementi più essenziali della vita si reggano o cadano sulle cose più semplici.

Per me, l'arte è aggiungere quel piccolo qualcosa in più a semplici argomenti, come l'amore tra due persone o membri della famiglia. Non solo ricostruisce una scena di genere, ma aggiunge anche qualcosa per cui vale la pena fermarsi e riflettere.

L'arte di ciottoli lo rende davvero possibile.

Credo che l'opera d'arte completata, non sia solo una mia creazione, ma molto di più, una creazione reciproca dell'artista e del destinatario. Queste due cose insieme sono l'arte di ciottoli. Diventa una vera opera d'arte solo se significa davvero qualcosa per il destinatario, poiché ha l'opportunità di aggiungere anche i propri sentimenti e pensieri.
