Steve Cosentino | Plein Air painter

American painter Steve Cosentino was born in New York City, the place where he continues to call home.

Steven studied at the Art Students League with Rudolf Baranik and went on to teach at the League in the early 1990s.

- "As a child I lived in a building much like the ones depicted in these paintings".

"The streetscapes I portray are profoundly familiar to me.

Yet, more than just incorporation reproductions of what my eye sees, my paintings reflect a filtered vision of my emotions and sensibilities.

Created mostly en plein air, my work incorporates the myriad memories and thoughts that flood my mind as I paint.

I'm interested not only in producing strong visual effect, but also in suggesting stories about the lives lived in and around these old buildings.

For me, the age of the buildings becomes a metaphor for our own lives, as we get older with all the cracks, crevices and wear and tear.

There's a character to these beautiful old buildings that intrigues me.

My hope is it shows in the completed paintings".

- "Da bambino vivevo in un edificio molto simile a quelli raffigurati in questi dipinti.

I paesaggi stradali che ritraggo mi sono profondamente familiari".

"Tuttavia, più che semplici riproduzioni di ciò che vede il mio occhio, i miei dipinti riflettono una visione filtrata delle mie emozioni e sensibilità.

Creando principalmente en plein air, il mio lavoro incorpora la miriade di ricordi e pensieri che inondano la mia mente mentre dipingo.

Mi interessa non solo produrre un forte effetto visivo, ma anche suggerire storie sulle vite vissute dentro e intorno a questi vecchi edifici".

"Per me, l’età degli edifici diventa una metafora delle nostre stesse vite, man mano che invecchiamo con tutte le crepe, le fessure e l’usura.

C'è un carattere in questi bellissimi edifici antichi che mi incuriosisce.

La mia speranza è che si veda nei dipinti completati".
