Gustav Igler | Genre painter

Gustav Igler (1842-1938) was an Austrian genre painter.

Gustav Igler was born in Austro-Hungarian Odenburg and from 1858 he was a pupil of the famous portraitist Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller in Vienna.

He then studied with Arthur von Ramberg until 1871 at the Royal Academy in Munich.

In 1888 he was appointed to head the Technical Painting Class at the Art Academy in Stuttgart.

In 1896 he directed the second International Painting Exhibition in Stuttgart.

In 1913 he retired and returned to Munich.

Gustav Igler (15 maggio 1842, Ödenburg, Austria-Ungheria - 22 gennaio 1938, Monaco) è stato un pittore di genere Austriaco.

Igler fu allievo di Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller a Vienna dal 1858 e poi studiò pittura dal 24 ottobre 1868 al 1871 presso l'Accademia reale di belle arti di Monaco con Arthur von Ramberg.

Nel 1888 Igler fu nominato capo del corso di pittura tecnica presso la Royal Art School di Stoccarda.

Nel 1896 diresse la Seconda Esposizione Internazionale di Pittura a Stoccarda.

Trascorse principalmente i mesi estivi a Rothenburg ob der Tauber.

Dopo il pensionamento nel 1914 tornò a Monaco.

Ha esposto le sue opere al Palazzo di Vetro di Monaco, alla "Gartenlaube" e ad altre riviste.

Nei suoi dipinti di genere mostrava soprattutto bambini che giocavano.
