Karl Wilhelm Bauerle (1831-1912)

Karl Wilhelm Friedrich Bauerle - (also: Carl Bauerle/Bowerley) - (1831-1912) was a German painter who achieved international fame as a portrait painter at German courts and later at the British one Court of Queen Victoria.

Little has been published about Karl Wilhelm Friedrich Bauerle.

He emigrated to Ohio, learned to engrave from an uncle in Cincinnati, then returned to Stuttgart to pursue a career as a children's portraitist and genre painter (his patrons included Prince of Hohenlohe-Langenburg, Queen Victoria, Edward Prince of Wales).

Karl Bauerle entered the Stuttgart Art School in 1859 under Professor Rustige and went on to study in Munich.

Bauerle visited England in 1869.

He specialised in portraiture and painted some of the monarchy; these being exhibited in 1878.

The museums of Stuttgart and Sydney hold works by the artist.

Karl Bauerle entrò alla Scuola d'arte di Stoccarda nel 1859 sotto la guida del professor Rustige e continuò a studiare a Monaco.

Bauerle visitò l'Inghilterra nel 1869.

Si specializzò nella ritrattistica e dipinse alcuni episodi della monarchia; questi furono esposti nel 1878.

I musei di Stoccarda e Sydney conservano opere dell'artista.
