Colin Fraser has long been established as one of the world's leading egg tempera painters.

Colin Fraser is a contemporary Scottish-born painter known for his detailed still lifes, landscapes, and interiors.

Fraser's use of egg-tempera gives his work a light-filled, translucent quality unequaled in other mediums, it is notoriously hard to control and seldom used by contemporary artists.

"It's a medium fraught with technical difficulties, but therein lies its charm.

Brushstrokes dry instantly and are never really fully opaque, so just about every mark the painter makes shows", Fraser has explained.

"You can’t force your will on it, it forces you to accept the marks you make and live in the 'moment', with each brushstroke that is applied to the panel".

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, he studied art at Brighton Polytechnic before moving to Sweden in 1981.

Though he originally worked in watercolor and oil paint, Fraser wanted a medium that was easier to travel with than oil yet more substantial than watercolor, so he taught himself egg-tempera technique using books.

Fraser has been the subject of solo exhibitions at John Davies Gallery in Moreton-in-Marsh, United Kingdom.

The artist continues to live and work in Lund, Sweden.
