Rosa Schweninger | Genre painter

Rosa Schweninger (1849-1918) was an Austrian painter.
She came from a Viennese artist family; she was the daughter of the painter Carl Schweninger the Elder (1818-1887) and sister of the painter Carl Schweninger the Younger (1854-1903).
After her first painting lessons with her father, she studied painting from 1869 to 1871 at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, under Friedrich Sturm (1822-1898).



Her work includes portraits and florals.
Schweninger exhibited her work in the rotunda of The Woman's Building at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois.

The Zwei Lieder, op. 20, by Viennese composer Bertha von Brukenthal are dedicated to her.
Schweninger's portrait of von Brukenthal is held by the Brukenthal National Museum in Sibiu, Romania.

Apparteneva ad una famiglia di artisti viennesi, che comprendeva suo padre, Carl Schweninger, il Vecchio, e suo fratello, Carl Schweninger, il Giovane.
Studiò all'Università di Arti Applicate di Vienna con Frederick Sturm dal 1869 al 1871.
Il suo lavoro comprende ritratti e fiori.


Schweninger espose il suo lavoro nella rotonda del Woman's Building all'Esposizione mondiale colombiana del 1893 a Chicago, Illinois.
