Vera Kavura / Віра Кавура, 1978 | Pastel flower painter

In Kyiv, the capital city of Ukraine, Vera Kavura / Віра Кавура can be found painting her favorite subject: flowers, which she describes as "natural, beautiful, and diverse".

Kavura began drawing as a child and over the years experimented with different techniques until, in 2016, she discovered painting with pastels.

"The pastel medium allows me to work quickly and catch all the color nuances", she says.

"A single photo cannot reflect the shine of a flower’s petals; by painting a bouquet with pastel, I’m able to catch changes in the light and shadows, and even the movement of the petals".

Her approach to painting flowers is to start right away with color, versus sketching.

She then adds details as she paints, a process that allows her to "be constantly in unity with nature".

Kavura tells us her process begins with the selection of flowers, which she carefully chooses based on their form and color.

She paints from a live bouquet using natural light.

"My flowers seem to be very realistic but it is the pastel, the form, and the color, which allows me to create the character and spirit of the flowers", she says.

"To make smile a viewer and feel a sweet mood - this is my mission in the drawing, by means of flashing the real miracle of nature - flowers".

Kavura inizia a disegnare da bambina e negli anni sperimenta diverse tecniche fino a quando, nel 2016, scopre la pittura con i pastelli.

"Il mezzo pastello mi consente di lavorare velocemente e catturare tutte le sfumature di colore", afferma.

"Una singola foto non può riflettere la lucentezza dei petali di un fiore; dipingendo un bouquet con i pastelli, sono in grado di cogliere i cambiamenti nella luce e nelle ombre, e persino il movimento dei petali".

Il suo approccio alla pittura di fiori è iniziare subito con il colore, piuttosto che con lo schizzo.

Quindi aggiunge dettagli mentre dipinge, un processo che le permette di "essere costantemente in unità con la natura".

Kavura ci racconta che il suo processo inizia con la selezione dei fiori, che sceglie con cura in base alla loro forma e colore.

Dipinge da un bouquet dal vivo usando la luce naturale.

"I miei fiori sembrano molto realistici, ma sono i pastelli, la forma e il colore che mi permettono di creare il carattere e lo spirito dei fiori", afferma.

"Far sorridere uno spettatore e provare un dolce umore - questa è la mia missione nel disegno, facendo lampeggiare il vero miracolo della natura - i fiori".
