Edward Dufner (1872-1957)

Edward Dufner was a painter and watercolorist of landscapes, portraits and figurative works. He was also a master teacher.
He began his artistic education at the Buffalo Arts Student League and at the Art Students League in NYC with George Brandt Bridgman and Monbray.
He also studied with Jean-Paul Laurens at the Academie Julian in Paris, France as well as with Whistler🎨 in Italy.


He was a member of many prominent art associations, including being made an associate member (ANA) of the National Academy of Design and Arts in 1910 and a full member (NA) in 1929.
Dufner was also a member of the New York Watercolor Society, the American Watercolor Society, the Salmagundi Club, the American Art Association of Paris and the National Arts Club.
He lived in Buffalo from 1903-1907, New York City from 1908-1925, and then settled in Short Hills, New Jersey.
He studied and traveled abroad in Europe for five years, from 1989-1903.
Dufner was an instructor of portrait and still life paintings at the Arts Student League of Buffalo (1903-1907), the Arts Student League of NYC (1908-1917) and at the Peabody Institute (1920). He died in New Jersey in 1957.


Dufner exhibited quite successfully during his lifetime and garnered numerous prizes and awards🎨, including:
