Jacob van Velsen (1597-1656) | Dutch Golden Age painter


Jacob Jansz. van Velsen was a Dutch🎨 Golden Age painter. Little is known about the painter's life. He lived his entire life in Delft, but died in Amsterdam.
He was the son of Jan Jacobsz van Velsen and Janntegen Jansdr van der Hooch. April 18, 1625 he became a member of the Delft Saint Luke Guild.


Jacob Jansz. van Velsen was born into a lower-class family in Delft.
He may have trained with Anthonie Palamedesz, although this cannot be documented.
In 1625 he registered in the Guild of St. Luke in the city.
A year later, he married a rich widow and as a result never had to paint for a living.
The couple owned many houses in Delft and in the countryside, and also had a collection of Chinese porcelain, curiosities, and paintings. Van Velsen died in Amsterdam. | © The National Gallery, London









Jacob Jansz. Van Velsen è nato in una famiglia di classe inferiore a Delft. Potrebbe essersi allenato con Anthonie Palamedesz, sebbene ciò non possa essere documentato.
