Paul Madeline | Post-Impressionist painter

Paul Madeline (1863-1920) was born in Paris on the 7th of October 1863.
As he was a student at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he was working in a publishing house to earn some money for living and painted urban landscapes in his spare time.
In 1894, he discovered la Creuse, a charming countryside in the Limousin. It encouraged him to visit it more frequently to paint his landscapes en pleine-air.



Madeline exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1894, 1897 and 1899.
He was appointed permanent member of the Salon d'Automne, and later of the Salon de la Nationale des Beaux-Arts as well.
The success he earned from his art allowed him to live from 1902 onward solely from his creations.
In 1908, he founded "La Société Moderne", which includes painters like Lebasque🎨, Raffaëlli🎨, Aman and Maurice Chabas.
The gallery Devambez and Durand-Ruel invited them to their annual exhibitions.

Madeline travelled a lot in the years 1910, but mainly we find motives from Brittany.
Towards the end of his career, Madeline introduced some characters in his landscapes, wearing regional costumes, especially from Brittany.
He died at 57 years, on February 12th 1920 in Paris.
The Salon des Indépendants devoted a retrospective to him in 1926.

Mentre era studente all'École des Beaux-Arts di Parigi, lavorava in una casa editrice per guadagnare soldi per vivere e dipingere paesaggi urbani nel suo tempo libero.
Nel 1894, scoprì la Creuse, un'affascinante campagna nel Limousin. Lo ha incoraggiato a visitarlo più frequentemente per dipingere i suoi paesaggi en pleine-air.
Madeline espose al Salon des Artistes Français nel 1894, 1897 e 1899.
Fu nominato membro permanente del Salon d'Automne e in seguito anche del Salon de la Nationale des Beaux-Arts.
Il successo che guadagnò dalla sua arte gli permise di vivere dal 1902 in poi esclusivamente dalle sue creazioni.


Nel 1908 fonda "La Société Moderne", che comprende pittori come Lebasque🎨, Raffaëlli🎨, Aman e Maurice Chabas.
La galleria Devambez e Durand-Ruel li hanno invitati alle loro mostre annuali.
Madeline ha viaggiato molto negli anni 1910, ma principalmente troviamo motivi dalla Bretagna.
Verso la fine della sua carriera, Madeline ha introdotto alcuni personaggi nei suoi paesaggi, indossando costumi regionali, in particolare dalla Bretagna.
Morì a 57 anni, il 12 febbraio 1920 a Parigi.
Il Salon des Indépendants gli dedicò la retrospettiva nel 1926.
