Vittorio Gussoni (1893-1968) was an Italian painter🎨, born in Milano, Italy into a family of artists.

He learned the first bases of drawing from his father, he enrolled at the Academy of Brera, where he was a pupil of Cesare Tallone before the world war, and of Ambrogio Alciati🎨 afterwards.

From the very beginning in Brera and the Famiglia Artistica in 1922, he provided proof of a solid figurative connotation characterized by a precise personality, not deaf to the calls of the twentieth century.

In 1922 Gussoni exhibited for the first time at the Biennale di Brera, he was appointed honorary member of the Academy.

In the same year he exhibited his work La Spagnola to the Artistic Family of Milan, while the following year, in 1923, presenting himself in the same event, he presented various works, depicting almost exclusively fascinating models, with the exception of a self-portrait.

Still in 1923, he was found at the Permanente in Milan with the work Mantilla.

His portraits found favorable criticism even abroad, especially in the United States.

He is considered a complete artist, he does not shy away from treating landscapes, animals, still lifes easily, sometimes set on a seafaring background, but expresses himself at best as a figure painter.

The feminine figures, always sinuous, persuasive, sometimes even provocative, occasionally have Spanish-like references.

One of his models, his favorite, accompanies him over the years.

He cultivated several friendships both in the world of art and culture -Giuseppe di Stefano, Giovanni Barrella, Carlo Dapporto, Carlo Carrà, Aligi Sassu, Orio Vergani.

Many portraits and other paintings are in private collections and galleries, one of his self-portraits is exhibited at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.

Despite the numerically low production and therefore with few works on the market, the most famous auction houses worldwide treat their paintings with always upward quotations.

Gussoni died in Sanremo in 1968, although enjoying some success in life, the true recognition took place posthumously. In fact after 2000, there were numerous exhibitions that tended to enhance his art.

In 2005 Vittorio Gussoni was one of the artists chosen by the Organizing Committee of the exhibition: The 1st Annual Collective Exhibition of the Arts of the Twentieth Century, held at the Cloister of Voltorre di Gavirate, with the patronage of the Province of Varese and the municipality of Gavirate, supported by the Council Regional of Lombardy .

In 2007 there was a retrospective exhibition of Gussoni at the Castello Visconteo of Pavia, under the patronage of the Lombardy Region.

Vittorio Gussoni (1893-1968) nacque a Milano il 18 dicembre del 1893.

Discendente da una famiglia d'artisti, apprese le prime basi del disegno dal padre.

Successivamente si iscrisse all'Accademia di Brera dove fu allievo di Cesare Tallone prima della guerra e di Ambrogio Alciati dopo.

Nel 1922 espose per la prima volta alla Biennale di Brera e fu subito nominato socio onorario dell'Accademia.

Svolse la sua attività tra Milano e Sanremo esponendo con mostre personali in tutta Italia.

Ha eseguito molti ritratti su ordinazione sia in Italia che all'estero, specie negli Stati Uniti d'America e in Sudafrica.

Coltivò diverse amicizie sia nel mondo dell'arte che della cultura (Giuseppe di Stefano, Giovanni Barrella, Carlo Dapporto, Carlo Carrà, Aligi Sassu, Orio Vergani).

Alla fine degli anni '50 si ritirò a Sanremo dove si spense il 31 /12/1968 e fu seppellito nella tomba di famiglia.

La sua pittura continua le tradizioni più nobili, artista completo, non rifugge dal trattare con facilità paesaggi, animali, nature morte, ma è da ritenere più specialmente pittore di figura.

Le figure femminili, sempre sinuose, suadenti, talvolta provocanti, hanno richiami spagnoleggianti; fra di esse una, la sua modella preferita lo accompagno negli anni.

Fu profondo conoscitore della tecnica nella sua gamma più vasta e sottile esaltandone con gioia i valori cromatici.

Molti ritratti ed altri quadri sono in collezioni e gallerie private, un suo autoritratto è esposto alla Galleria degli Uffizi a Firenze.

Nonostante la numericamente scarsa produzione e quindi con poche opere sul mercato, le più famose Case d'asta mondiali trattano i suoi quadri con quotazioni sempre al rialzo.
