Thomas Ehretsmann, 1974 | Narrative painter

French painter🎨 and illustrator Thomas Ehretsmann was born in Mulhouse, France.

He completed his studies at the School of Decorative Arts in Strasbourg in 1998 and has led a successful career in illustration for over a decade. Notably, his work has been featured in the New Yorker, Rolling Stone, Elle Magazine and various European and American books and journals.

In 2009, he spent several months in Norway studying with the internationally recognized painter, Odd Nerdrum🎨. He received a gold medal from the Society of Illustrators of New York in 2011, and a silver medal from the Society of Illustrators West in 2013.

His works have been exhibited at Gallery Brulee in Strasbourg and at Gallery l’Oeil du Prince in Paris.

Ehretsmann works primarily in acrylic on paper, utilizing that medium’s versitility in allowing both thin watercolor-like transparency and thickly opaque passages.

Much of Ehretsmann’s work involves portraiture. Even those images that are not direct portraits convey a feeling that the artist has captured a portrait of his models in the course of creating the image.

His paintings were selected for the BP portrait award🎨 in London in 2016, 2017 and 2019.

The painting "Double portrait"🎨 wins second prize in 2017.

He has been invited to Italy several times to conduct some workshops about illustration and sketches from life.

Il pittore ed illustratore Francese🎨 Thomas Ehretsmann è nato a Mulhouse, in Francia.

Ha completato i suoi studi presso la School of Decorative Arts di Strasburgo nel 1998 e ha condotto una carriera di successo nell'illustrazione per oltre un decennio.

In particolare, il suo lavoro è stato pubblicato sul New Yorker, Rolling Stone, Elle Magazine e vari libri e riviste europei e americani.

Ehretsmann lavora principalmente in acrilico su carta, utilizzando la versatilità di quel mezzo per consentire sia una sottile trasparenza simile ad un acquerello sia passaggi densamente opachi. Gran parte del lavoro di Ehretsmann riguarda la ritrattistica.

Anche quelle immagini che non sono ritratti diretti trasmettono la sensazione che l'artista abbia catturato un ritratto dei suoi modelli nel corso della creazione dell'immagine. I suoi dipinti sono stati selezionati per il BP portrait award🎨 a Londra nel 2016, 2017 e 2019.

Il dipinto "Doppio ritratto" 🎨 vince il secondo premio nel 2017.

È stato più volte invitato in Italia per condurre alcuni seminari sull'illustrazione e schizzi dal vero.
