I wake up, get up and walk through the day trying to keep my eyes open.

Sometimes I get obsessed with places and stories and I fall in love with them as if they had a soul which I think they do.

I like to take my walks in the unknown cities without having a map.

And when the twilight comes, everything feels possible and nothing is quite certain.

To me twilight is a perfect time to look for something special that was once lost on one of the darker streets of my life.

Perhaps you have been to some of these streets too.

Then if you look at my paintings, they will speak to you.

I like to work with oils and i'm trying to work with the texture in a way that at times the oil feels like watercolor.

This is how i'm trying to put more air into my painting.

And if there is enough air, there is a chance of flying which is a part of most of my dreams.

Christina Nguyen is a Vietnamese American painter, born in Mountain View and then grew up in San Jose.

Inspired by ocean and nature, her works are dominated with oil paintings of moody figures and with the texture which feels like watercolor.

Christina Nguyen è una pittrice vietnamita americana, nata a Mountain View e poi cresciuta a San Jose.

Ispirata dall'oceano e dalla natura, le sue opere sono dominate da dipinti ad olio di figure lunatiche e con la trama che sembra acquerello.

Dipinge da quando era bambina, tanto che i genitori conservano ancora i suoi diari illustrati.

Ha avuto un rapporto discontinuo con la pittura, anche se da qualche anno è diventato più stabile.

"C’è la pioggia nei miei quadri, perché la pioggia è purificazione, pioggia è già ieri.

La pioggia è secondo me una metafora di vita, tra chi attende che la pioggia passi e chi ci balla sotto…

Sono una ballerina di tango, una scrittrice e una pittrice, ma per dirlo con una parola sono più di una sognatrice professionale che cerca il modo di fotografare i suoi sogni. Ecco, questa è la mia arte…

Scrivo e racconto soprattutto storie metropolitane i cui protagonisti sono sognatori nella pioggia. Ho pubblicato il primo libro in Bulgaria l’anno scorso. Si intitola “Una scommessa”.

Quello che mi interessa, più della tecnica, è l’idea che respira dietro al disegno. Se c’è un’idea, troverò di certo il mondo per dipingerla. Per me è importante creare una relazione con lo spazio e la prospettiva, ma anche con l’aria. Perciò uso gli oli con un bel po’ di solvente e qualche volta questa combinazione genera questo effetto acquerello".
