Spanish painter Mònica Castanys was born in Barcelona. She graduated from the School of Arts and Crafts of Barcelona in 1993. In 1990, she assisted a course at the Lorenzo di Medici School in Florence, Italy. She received several national prizes for young artists. Mònica’s art has been exhibited at numerous personal and group exhibitions in Spain and abroad.
With a colour palette, that remembers the impressionists, but with a more expressive stroke and a special taste to illuminate these summer scenes, the painter offers an enigmatic map from her imagined metropolis. These places, where she becomes a voyeur, allow her to discreetly observe around in a way that she can portray the random models, who walk peacefully, without even annoying them. At the same time she zooms in her work and she increasingly emphases the female figure in this slow tempo.
