Patrice Murciano, 1969 | New Pop Art

French painter and sculptor Patrice Murciano has had a huge rise to fame because of his amazing and very different creative style.
Murciano was born in Belfort and then moved to Montpellier when very young.
He discovered his passion for art at an early age when he started reproducing characters from comics when he was 6 years old.
At the age of 8, he borrowed his mother’s makeup to draw portraits and female figures.

Patrice was fascinated by the great masters and he reproduced the masterpieces of Velásquez and Rembrandt on oil canvas boards.
His parents quickly understood that he had a great talent and wanted Patrice to enter the fine-art school.
But close friends of the family, art connoisseurs, as well as his art teacher worried that the talent of Patrice would be “affected” by a normal course at art school.

His parents, whose activities were far from art, let Patrice express his imagination on the canvas as he saw it, which helped him to develop his unique artistic style.
Patrice is now 43 years old and lives in the south of France, with regular exhibitions held in New York, Osaka and Los Angeles.

Patrice Murciano is a “Moon catcher”.
Secretly dreaming since his childhood to be an astronaut, Patrice Murciano has long nourished the idea of painting on the Moon a work visible from the Earth, a work whose message of love would have been addressed, de facto, to all human beings.
Finally he said to himself that if he could not go to the Moon, the Moon would go to him, like an arrival point…
