Meadow Gist, 1975 | Impressionist painter

Meadow Gist chooses the subject matter she paints to express a love and respect of a simpler life, when you grew your own food and more things were crafted by hand.

This is what attracted her to being an artist in the first place, "crafting a unique item that has a piece of me in it, and I can say "I made that".

She enjoys presenting a romantic view of bygone days, and sharing a little of this optimism with all who view her paintings.

Her inspiration comes from the painting of the Russian Impressionists and the way they paint daily life, as well as the Orientalists and the pride they bring to the simple man.

She is enamored with the plight of the craftsman, the rural worker, and Native Americans.

She enjoys trying to express the relationship between them and what they produce in a visual narrative.

For her formal training, Meadow sought out Jeffrey R. Watts at Watts Atelier of the Arts.

It was here that she was exposed to the fundamentals of drawing, as well as the paintings of Nicolai Fechin, Anders Zorn, Cecilia Beaux, and Dean Cornwell.

Nature's colors have inspired Meadow from an early age.

It was her love of nature and the hope of capturing the beauty around her that originally attracted Meadow to art.

The artistic efforts of a young girl revealed an intensity and vibrancy that remain in her work today.

Her first years of art education proved a frustrating experience due to a lack of formal training. Meadow then sought out Jeff Watts at Watts Atelier of the Arts.

It was here that she began her study in earnest, and was exposed to the paintings of artists such as Nicolai Fechin, Anders Zorn, Cecilia Beaux and Dean Cornwell.

"My current work in the Colonial Era requires research into period-appropriate attire and environments. I use authentic materials such as silk, linen, and wool. The creation of custom dresses and suits is an art of itself. I think of a time when everything was created by hand, and a reflection of both wearer and creator" - Meadow - Art Instructor, represented by Willow Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Meadow Gist is member of both the California Art Club and Oil Painters of America.

Gist has studied at Watts Atelier for the past six years, and has taught there for the last three.

She began her art career in the corporate field painting displays and murals for a major retail chain.

Her work has been exhibited as a finalist in the International Artist Magazine's Still Lifes and Florals Competition 2006 and as a "Top 50" selection at Salon International 2007.

Meadow Gist sceglie i soggetti che dipinge per esprimere l'amore ed il rispetto per una vita più semplice, quando si coltivava il proprio cibo e la maggior parte delle cose venivano realizzate a mano.

Questo è ciò che l'ha spinta a diventare un'artista in primo luogo: "creare un oggetto unico che contenga un pezzo di me, e di cui poter dire "l'ho fatto io".

Le piace presentare una visione romantica dei tempi passati e condividere un po' di questo ottimismo con tutti coloro che ammirano i suoi dipinti.

La sua ispirazione proviene dalla pittura degli impressionisti russi e dal modo in cui dipingono la vita quotidiana, così come dagli orientalisti e dall'orgoglio che infondono nell'uomo semplice.

È innamorata della difficile situazione dell'artigiano, del lavoratore rurale e dei nativi americani.

Le piace cercare di esprimere il rapporto tra loro e ciò che producono in una narrazione visiva.
