Italian painter Omar Galliani was born in Montecchio Emilia, where he lives and works now.

Omar Galliani has graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna and teaches painting at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera.

In recent years, Omar Galliani turned his attention to the East.

In an effort to find common ground between the classical traditions of Western Europe and Eastern cultures, Galliani participated in international projects in China, Hong Kong and Russia.

Galliani participated in the International Biennale in Venice (2007, 1986, 1982), in numerous international exhibitions in Paris, New York, Tokyo, Prague, Lisbon, Mexico City, and in 2003 with works from the series “New anatomy” he participated in the Beijing Biennale.

Galliani was repeatedly awarded various prizes and awards, and in 2006 was chosen by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs the sole representative of Italian art in China.

Heir of the great Italian masters of the Renaissance tradition of drawing, such as Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael and Correggio, Galliani uses a special technique: pencil or pastel, ink and gold leaf on panel of poplar.

Such a framework of wood was widely used in the art of the past centuries, the temple altars are made on the same technology.

This material allows very simple technique of fine art – drawing, to reach the triumph of great art.

In May 2013, “Face and Soul” exhibition opened at the State Historical Museum in Moscow, a single large panel-installation featuring 48 Russian female faces, a project curated by the K35 Art Gallery.

In the summer of 2013, Venice held the exhibition “The Dream of Eurasia”.

Also in Venice, for the twelfth edition of Temporanea, Galliani presented Il sogno della Principessa Lyu Ji in the Chinese Room of the Cafe Florian.

The catalog was curated by Stefano Stipitivich and Andrea Formilli Fendi, and included an unpublished poem by Roberto Mussapi.

In December, the K35 Art Gallery in Moscow presented a new series of works: Nuovi mantra per Mosca.

Ha frequentato l’Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna, le sue costanti pittoriche si riferiscono spesso ad immagini tratte dalla storia dell’arte, a simboli, a rituali primordiali e la composizione delle sue opere è spesso costituita da una struttura piramidale di stampo tardo rinascimentale.

Nel 1977 espone a Bologna per la prima volta in una personale.

Già negli anni fra il ’77 e l’80 Galliani lavora partendo dalla storia dell’arte e dalle sue metamorfosi e tenta di collegare l’antico al contemporaneo.

Inizialmente questo lavoro porta con sé una forte componente concettuale - la rappresentazione di un opera celebre accostata alla messa a fuoco di un particolare.

Nel 1980 espone a Roma e a Ferrara nella mostra curata da Flavio Caroli “Magico Primario”.

In questo periodo Galliani si esprime splendidamente con il disegno, che era già un’invocazione alla pittura e che poco tempo dopo gli permetterà di recuperare quelle immagini “colte” e mitologiche che sono alla base del suo lavoro.

I colori delle sue opere sono caldi e sanguigni.

Attraverso le immagini esprime l’atmosfera mitologica, allude ad avvenimenti passati filtrandoli nel presente, ma la vera meta della sua pittura è l’essenza alchemica posseduta dalle forme e dai simboli.

Dopo il 1980 ha esposto in numerosissime personali e ha partecipato alla XVI Biennale di San Paolo del Brasile ed alle Biennali d’Arte da Venezia dell’82 e dell’86.
