Alex Kanevsky, 1963 | Abstract painter

The Russian-born American painter Alex Kanevsky was born in Rostov (Russia) in 1963 and came to the United States in 1983 with his family. Kanevsky settled in Philadelphia where he later studied and graduated from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
He was honored with many prestigious awards while attending PAFA including the Pearson Memorial Prize for Painting; the Pennsylvania Governor's Award for Painting; the William Emlen Cresson Memorial Travel Scholarship, which he used for travel in Italy, Germany, Switzerland, France and Russia in 1992; and a full fellowship to the Vermont Studio Center in 1994.

  • 1993 - Pennsylvania Governor’s Award for Painting;
  • 1993 - Mary Townsend and William Clarke Mason Memorial Prize in Sculpture;

Alex Kanevsky dal 1983 vive a Philadelphia (USA) e dal 1992 insegna alla Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, dove lui stesso ha studiato tra il 1989-1993.
Kanevsky è originario di una provincia della Russia, Rostvo-na Donu, ed ha trascorso alcuni anni in Lithuania, a Vilnius, dove si è laureato anche in scienze matematiche.
In un abile gioco tra realtà ed astrazione i suoi dipinti sono pervasi da un senso di mistero che stuzzica la curiosità dello spettatore. Come se non volesse esprimere tutto, il pittore russo lascia qualcosa in sospeso nelle sue opere e tocca a chi guarda il compito di interpretare, di dare un significato all’immagine.
Kanevsky è vincitore di molti premi artistici.
